Really enjoyed writing this introduction of Heer in the novel #FromWarisToHeer. It is unlike I have ever written before. I am glad The Wire used this section to run an excerpt. Access the excerpt here: bit.ly/3ItL6h5

While #Waris’s #HeerRanjha is a love-legend, it is also a story of violence. In #FromWarisToHeer I wanted to provide the broader, context that Waris Shah was a part of. This excerpt below provides some of that context: bit.ly/4abl7a7

"Particularly in today's time, how beautiful it is to discover that Ranjha, a penultimate symbol in Muslim Sufi poetry is very much inspired by Ram." Really enjoyed doing this interview for Life & More Media. Full article here: bit.ly/4coUSix

"The amazing rhythm of the language lights the path. In this delightful read, the past meets the present and the poet meets the story, finding Khalid at his creative best." Sharing a review of 'From Waris to Heer' by the amazing Nirupama Dutt. bit.ly/3JawgML

So much of this violence, most recently in Sargodha, emerges from majoritarian insecurity, nurtured, fanned, incited and primed years before the attack. The dehumanization of people, places and communities is always the first step. Such violence doesn't happen overnight.

I probably had one of the greatest moments of my professional writing career a few days ago. I received an email from Gulzar Sahab referring to 'From Waris to Heer,' as 'fascinating.' I just can't imagine a greater validation of my craft. #FromWarisToHeer #HaroonKhalid

"It goes on to show that despite creating hard borders, all these places, villages and cities are interconnected and what happens in Lahore will impact Delhi. It is criminal to not have cross-border cooperation to address these environmental catastrophes that are staring at us."
