Read this one in Zelda‘s collected writings. Was surprised to see it again here. According to Matthew Bruccoli who edited Zelda’s collection, it was originally published under both names, but Scott credited Zelda in his ledger. The opening certainly reads like Zelda #Fitzgeralds

“A southern moon is a sodden moon, and sultry. When it swamps the fields and the rustling sandy roads and the sticky honeysuckle hedges in its sweet stagnation, your fight to hold on to reality is like a protestation against a first waft of ether.” #ZeldaFitzgerald #moon 🌕💛

I’ve read Save Me the Waltz a few times before, but rereading on the heels of Tender is the Night is fascinating. Parsing through the “shared” materials is something—Rosemary Hoyt, Gabrielle Gibbs . . . Lois Moran 😳 Image of Lois Moran. Looks like Zelda #ZeldaFitzgerald

F. Scott Fitzgerald on insomnia: “The horror has come now like a storm—what if this night prefigured the night after death—what if all thereafter was an eternal quivering on the edge of an abyss, with everything base and vicious in oneself urging one forward . . .” #Fitzgerald

I miss New England. We’ve been in Houston for over a month now. One week left to go. Here is LAUREL IN THE BERKSHIRES by Adelaide Crapsey (1878-1914). Crapsey, credited with creating the American cinquain, taught at Smith College in MA and vacationed in the Berkshires. #poetry

He must have been a wizard or just pretty damn aware of his insecurities regarding Zelda . . . even before their marriage. Her letters were fire! "Head and Shoulders" by #FScottFitzgerald. Written in late 1919!!! Published in Feb. 1920. #ZeldaFitzgerald

So what I learned over this past month is that you can’t walk in Houston they way you do in NYC. You just can’t. I’ve tried. It’s like moving through warm jello. You must move slowly. Otherwise you’ll melt.🥵

“Summer and love and beauty are much the same in Cannes or Connecticut.” ~Zelda Fitzgerald When I think of Zelda, I picture her in summertime—high diving into the pool in Montgomery, swimming in the sound in Westport, sunbathing on the Riviera. #ZeldaFitzgerald #botd in 1900

After nearly six weeks away, we start the long drive back home tomorrow. All sorts of feelings. Happy to get back. Sad that this unique experience with my kids is over. Disappointed in myself for not returning a better, improved person. Mystified that time moves so quickly.
