This is utterly insane. That's our house. No one has approved this in Congress? The Republicans in the House are just a doormat now. Disgusting.

While we spectate on The East Wing being torn down, it isn’t just another hallway, it’s where Eleanor Roosevelt built the modern Office of the First Lady, where WWII bunkers were hidden, and where the public enters the People’s House. Erasing it is rewriting history.

Here's a version of the English nursery rhyme, "The Grand Old Duke of York" 🎶 about the man who says he isn't going to call himself it anymore ... though whether he should be taken at his word ... 🤔

Today we remember the 116 children and 28 adults who died in the unimaginable tragedy of #Aberfan fifty-nine years ago today. We will never forget the pain of the people of #Aberfan in those darkest of times, or their courage and dignity in the years since.

As Iain Dale is blocking anyone who posts footage of him assaulting this elderly anti-nuclear protester in 2013, here it is from a different angle. Do feel free to use it. 👍

It would appear that he's tearing down the entire East Wing without any Congressional oversight or legal approval — even though he doesn't own the building and is using, reportedly, private money for the entire thing, not government funding.

Liszt b otd 1811! I love Grieg's description: "He does not really play—one forgets he is a musician, he becomes a prophet proclaiming the Last Judgment, till all the spirits of the universe vibrate under his fingers... He stirs one’s inmost soul with demonic power.” Wow...

Wisdom from Saint Ignatius (b otd 1491): "I wish not merely to be called Christian, but also to be Christian." "Occupy yourself in beholding and bewailing your own imperfections rather than contemplating the imperfections of others." "Teach us to give and not to count the cost."

Incredible. A café employs people with Down syndrome to affirm their humanity and break societal stigmas. An extra chromosome does not determine a person’s worth or humanity. We need more of this.

Bizet b otd 1838! What a master - and a wonderful man, too: "When a supposedly civilised society tolerates, even encourages, stupid and useless monstrosities... honest and intelligent men must come together, agree, love one another, enlighten one another, and pity the idiots..."

Domenico Scarlatti b otd 1685! A unique musical voice - each sonata a gem, polished to brilliance, affording endless delight; the master of the unexpected. And here some wise advice for listeners: "Show yourself more human than critical, and then your pleasure will increase."

Don Giovanni premiered otd in Prague 1787. What a timeless masterpiece, expanding well beyond mere beauty; the music ranges from the seductive to the terrifying - and retains its power to shock, as well as charm. An opera that can convert those who claim to hate opera!

I realise I’m in a tiny minority now who support Starmer. I still say however that Jesus Christ combined with Ghandi would struggle against a media so hostile as to be phenomenal in its savagery.

We just defeated Nigel Farage’s Bill in Parliament to tear up people’s rights and withdraw from the ECHR. Farage wants to do away with the Britain Churchill built and turn it into a version of Trump's America. We stopped him.

Wit/wisdom from R B Sheridan (b otd 1751): “The number of those who undergo the fatigue of judging for themselves is very small indeed.” "There is not a passion so strongly rooted in the human heart as envy." "Won't you come into the garden? I would like my roses to see you."
