You won't believe what they're doing in China. This is the Chinese port in Guangzhou. People unload ships remotely with 5G, AND THEN, AI vehicles automatically drive the containers to trucks and load them, without human assistance. #WaytoModernization

How serious would it be if the Atlantic Ocean overturning circulation (#AMOC) winds down in response to global heating? Briefly explained at the New York Times last week.

Google search is Altavista circa 2000. Poor results, useless for older search queries and what on earth happened to Google reverse image search? Time for Perplexity to take over?

Carbon Brief It finds that Current policies put the world on track for 2.9C of warming by 2100 – though this could be reduced to 2.4-2.6C, if all existing NDCs are met. This is a notable increase from the 2.7C current policy outcome in the prior 2023 report:

COP28 UAE Nonsense! From the start of 2025 the remaining carbon budget for a 50% chance of not exceeding 1.5°C is ~170GtCO2 (billion tonnes). Between COP28 & COP29 over 40GtCO2 was emitted. Staying within 170GtCO2 means global cuts in CO2 of ~19% year on year starting now. Do the math/s!

When financiers say 'Africa isn't ready' what they mean is there isn't enough public subsidy for their private energy projects. And look who's getting the subsidies anyways

I mean it from the bottom of my heart: The future of the world is in Africa. The United States is proud to be Angola's partner in writing that future.

One thing I wish Americans understood about “clean tech”: It’s not just about climate. It’s about tech that feeds into future industries. EVs -> autonomous vehicles Solar, wind, geothermal -> data centers Batteries -> drones, robotics, defense

I am alarmed by the proposed cuts to U.S. funding for basic research, and the impact this would have for U.S. competitiveness in AI and other areas. Funding research that is openly shared benefits the whole world, but the nation it benefits most is the one where the research is

Interesting panel at #TechExEurope on boosting efficiency and greening #ai data centers. Most are at only 10% IT utilization and don’t measure emissions, water usage, harvest heat generated for reuse. Surprised these aren’t licensing requirements in the EU. Should be!

Last week, China barred its major tech companies from buying Nvidia chips. This move received only modest attention in the media, but has implications beyond what’s widely appreciated. Specifically, it signals that China has progressed sufficiently in semiconductors to break away

This is a very big deal. China has asserted sweeping control over the entire global semiconductor supply chain, putting export license requirements on all rare earths used to manufacture advanced chips. If enforced aggressively, this policy could mean "lights out" for the US AI

Arnaud Bertrand (@rnaudbertrand) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This really isn't getting enough attention. China has truly gone all in on export controls today, in a major way. Not only did they announce the unprecedented rare earths restrictions that I posted about earlier 👇 (targeted, among others, at the advanced semiconductors sector)
