#ISESSAH2023 conference kicked off! The first day focused on experimental economics in animal health & welfare domain, provided economics & social science perspectives to veterinary work & technologies, and had a lively poster session. @LukeFinlandInt University of Helsinki #NJF


Pranav Kulkarni presented his impressive modelling on optimal culling strategies when there is a constraint in available heifers. Future: chosen constraint since heifer rearing costs money and CO2. Nice collaboration between Business Economics @WUR and Diergeneeskunde


Many authors describe impact of production animal disease on other aspects than economics. Wilma Steeneveld Diergeneeskunde goes further. In collaborative work with Business Economics @WUR she describes quantification of environmental, animal welfare and public health burden. Work in progress


#proud of Business Economics @WUR Achmad Fadillah for receiving the price for best PhD presentation at #ISESSAH2023 He presented quite unique work on association of milk quality with economic farm performance in smallholder dairy farms in Indonesia. Part of Smart Indonesian Agriculture project

Not that novel, also at Wageningen U&R we have been working on this comparison. We looked at a organic animal production and all sustainability aspects, including public health. A review of 179 scientific papers. Organic products had equal or higher contamination sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Coincidentally, on this World Animal Day, our PhD student Thanicha Chanchaidechachai did succesfully defend her PhD thesis on Foot and Mouth Disease, a disease with a huge burden, worldwide. This work was a joint project with Business Economics @WUR QVE and Diergeneeskunde

Time, now for a symposium on the Epidemiological and Economic challenges on Foot and Mouth Disease. 25 people present Wageningen U&R and some 100 on-line. We are happy that Jonathan Rushton is able to present on the Economic burden of FMD #GBAD
