For young reporters: the ethical thing to do when reporting a story that another outlet first reported on is to acknowledge their work.

we are reliving the era when newsrooms are almost entirely white and great journalists of color, particularly black and brown journalists, are moving into their blog era. this should be concerning for anyone even a little invested in honest, well-reported journalism.

Traditional newsrooms have always balked at hiring Black journalists and with college becoming increasingly inaccessible for us, that will get worse.
