Meanwhile anyone living near an airport is plagued by more noise, congestion and pollution. And of course there is climate chaos all around us; these expansions put millions of tonnes of extra carbon and other gases into the vulnerable high atmosphere.

The industry talks about net-zero airports (they don’t mention that the cars and planes aren’t included in the calculation) and the magical thinking of so-called Sustainable Aviation Fuel. In case you’re wondering; much the same carbon comes out the back of the planes’ engine.

We have to listen to the independent experts; the Climate Change Committee. They say quite clearly that the government should ‘stop airport expansion without a uk-wide capacity-management framework’. The UK’s airports are big enough!
