{1/6}🆕📊🎉 Super excited to share my new #Misophonia research (with Tricia Stefancin, @leberandy, and Zeynep Saygin | zeynepsaygin.bsky.social), out today in Frontiers - Neuroscience for their special misophonia #ResearchTopic! frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…

Is language distinct from thought/other cognition in early development? New Saygin Cognitive Neuroscience Lab preprint w/ @Hiersche_kelly & Elana Schettini! tinyurl.com/2p93vutd. By age 2, the language network is specialized for linguistic content & not engaged in other higher-order cognition.

We scanned 2-9 year olds x-sectionally & longitudinally on auditory language task and on spatial working memory task (modified from Ev (like in 'evidence', not Eve) Fedorenko 🇺🇦). Even young kids show robust & left-lateralized selectivity to spoken language (vs. 2 control conditions) in frontal & temporal fROIs

Fun surprise to see our recent work linked in the The New York Times :) nytimes.com/2022/09/08/wel…

Congrats to Dr. Heather Hansen on an amazing defense today! Heather was my 1st grad student & I was lucky to co-mentor her with @leberandy :) Overwhelmed with happiness right now!

Thrilled to share that I’ve successfully defended my dissertation and am officially Dr. Hansen!! Immense thanks to my fabulous advisors Zeynep Saygin | zeynepsaygin.bsky.social and @leberandy — I’m so proud of what we accomplished in the #misophonia community 🥰🎉

#JNeurosci: Elana Kelly Hiersche & Zeynep Saygin | zeynepsaygin.bsky.social Ohio State show that the brain regions of the multiple demand network, recruited by adults when engaging in cognitively demanding tasks, are also selective to cognitive demand in children. jneurosci.org/lookup/DOI/10.…
