Autumns officially started Hilbre Bird Obs with this returning Common Sandpiper found in Niffy Bay after the high tide

Colour ringed Rock Pipit CAX was ringed Hilbre Bird Obs as a juv in July 24. Seen on the mainland at Hoylake in Feb 25 & now recruited into the breeding population on Hilbre. 1st sighting back on the island since ringing

Rock Pipit CBA was ringed as a juv Hilbre Bird Obs Rock Pipit CBA was ringed as a juv in July 24 and is now back breeding in the island after only being seen once previously in March this year. Great to see juvenile recruitment into the breeding population

Plenty of these tiger-striped Cinnabar moth caterpillars on ragwort Hilbre Bird Obs today.

A home away from home. A few days Hilbre Bird Obs in mid summer for that seabird mega 😉 No Brown Boobies today but a nice post tide passage of Manxies. 48, the final total in a F7 SW. #Wirral

Live (ish) 😉scenes from Hilbre Island. With Conlin Towers in the background it's good night from Hilbre Bird Obs. Another beautiful day on the Island of dreams..

Today's Hilbre Bird Obs highlights included 3 Meds. An ad sum, 1st sum & this flyover 2nd summer. Plus the usual Richard Smith post breeding build up of Sandwich Terns. 85 peak count for me. These birds will reach their peak numbers late August before departing for Africa. 💥💥

Sandwich Tern numbers building Hilbre Bird Obs 200 this morning, nice to see a good number of young birds being fed.

A real surprise Hilbre Bird Obs today when this very juvenile Wheatear was trapped & ringed. I don’t recall seeing one this young on the island before #birdringing

Juv Rock Pipit CBV was the latest to be colour ringed Hilbre Bird Obs today as part of our long term study. We’re already getting some fascinating results. 33 colour ringed birds have generated nearly 200 sightings

8 species of butterfly recorded Hilbre Bird Obs today including a few stunning Common Blue. Large White, Green-veined White, Red Admiral, Small, Tortoiseshell, Meadow Brown, Gatekeeper & a Large Skipper #cheshirebutterflies

This Rock Pipit was ringed as a juv on 30.07.20 Hilbre Bird Obs by our chairman Chris Williams Hilbre* . It was retrapped today, sexed as male in breeding condition & colour ringed. It was retrapped soon after it was originally ringed but not seen since #hilbrebirdobs #birdringing

A beautiful sunny day Hilbre Bird Obs today surrounded by the call of juv Sandwich Terns begging for food off parents. Lots of butterflies around and lots of Six-spot Burnett Moths nectaring on thistle flowers

Male Common Blue providing a splash of halcyon blue Hilbre Bird Obs today. One of 10 species of butterfly recorded

The passage of Common Sandpipers Hilbre Bird Obs continues. This bird surprised me in the west side so just time for a quick record shot

2 juvenile Stonechats were a surprise Hilbre Bird Obs this morning in the Obs garden. The nearest they breed is Red Rocks nature reserve. After posing for photos they promptly disappeared

Juv Stonechat, small passage of Swift, returning Turnstone and good numbers of Sandwich Tern with young Hilbre Bird Obs over the weekend.
