Hugo Soto-Martínez ACT-LA Strategic Actions for a Just Economy 🐝 ACCE 🐝 In our experience this is not what the head of LAHD does. Like, at all.

The Hillside Villa tenants have now defeated all 35 eviction cases filed against them. The last three remaining cases were either won or dismissed this week. Hillside Villa Tenants Association CCED #ChinatownIsNotForSale These are the same cases that Eunisses Hernandez's office explicitly told the tenants not to fight. 1/

Most recently, Eunisses Hernandez continues to pressure tenants to sign bad deals with the landlord. The city has set aside $250k in rental assistance, but is requiring that tenants sign these terrible deals to receive money. Tenants' concerns about this have been completely ignored.

It's clear that Eunisses Hernandez would prefer we just give up. We're not going anywhere.

Hillside Villa Tenants Association is at the Housing Department this morning. Eunisses Hernandez created a rent assistance program for the tenants and is now using this money to try to force the tenants to sign unfair contracts with the landlord. This needs to change.

This is how the City tries to grind you down. We showed up demanding that Los Angeles Housing Department fix a problem THEY created and they offer to take a complaint and “start an investigation.” Meanwhile when our landlord calls them he gets whatever he wants.

Still here at Los Angeles Housing Department. We got burritos. Why is the city pressuring tenants to sign bogus contracts with the landlord? Eunisses Hernandez your silence is deafening.

After a difficult, historic, hard-fought five-year rent strike, the tenants of Hillside Villa Tenants Association won an monumental victory. Their landlord is canceling over $700,000 of rental debt for 20 tenants, and no one is getting evicted.
