"I'm crippled by guilt, blinded by science / I've been waiting for tomorrow all of my life" Well tomorrow came yesterday as I finally caught The The at Sydney Opera House. What a fantastic show, starting with the brilliant new album, a little Matt patter and a lot of great songs!

This morning I'm at the Herb Greedy Hall in Marrickville, presenting to my local history group, the Marrickville Heritage Society. As a member I'll enjoy sharing some of the dangers from the skies that might have affected our community last century ...

Had a great time on Saturday presenting to my own local history group, the Marrickville Heritage Society. The Q&A session was really lively, with some excellent takes and lateral thoughts. Here's me with our wonderful, incredibly committed president, Scott MacArthur.

During WWII, the Japanese Navy requisitioned all 36 passenger liners belonging to NYK Line and converted them to aircraft carriers and troop transports. By 1945, all the liners had been sunk except the hospital ship Hikawa Maru which is now a museum. #WarshipWednesday

I bought this grimy Edwardian drinks tray (or afternoon tea tray) for $30 yesterday. After a fair bit of cleaning, though not enough to destroy its patina, I put it back together today. Definitely worth at least $35 now 🥸

This Christmas marks the 50th anniversary of Cyclone Tracy devastating Darwin. My parents recently reminded me that, aged 5, I was obsessed with the story in 1974. I've finally written a piece about the disaster, focusing on the role of Royal Australian Navy academia.edu/126195930/Oper…

Just farewelled my last intern for the year. I don't do it for the biscuits, but these home-baked seasonal treats were a touching gift 😋

Hooray, another issue of The Great Circle is published. Nice way to end the year, especially with one of my interns appearing as an author 😃

Well that was fun! Being inside the control room of the Pyrmont Bridge as it swung to allow a boat through. Then we visited the undersides. The motors and control units are all c1902 tram equipment! Thanks to Graeme the bridge 'driver' for the opportunity 👍
