In *just the last week* the Canadian wildfires have emitted more than 184 Mt CO2 equivalent👀 That’s about as much CO2 as 49 coal-fired power plants emit over the course of a year.

Despite decades of research and my determined climate optimism, this fire season has triggered every alarm bell I have. Canadian fire emissions continue to increase rapidly, already ~60% of nation-wide greenhouse gas emissions. This does not include 🔥 driven permafrost thaw.
