This year, we joined experts across the community to share successes and look ahead to the industry's future. The last of 35 crucial small boats have been delivered - ending a 7-year replacement project, Vahana. 3 hi-tech, modern small for the hydrographic squadron HMNB Devonport complete the £48m programme to upgrade RN workboats.

There are advantages to being the Royal Navyās smallest HMS. Great to transit the Caledonian Canal and enjoy a hands-to-bathe (swim) in the middle of Loch Ness. We cannot confirm the existence of the Monster, but we can confirm the water is cold! š„¶ #LochNess #MonsterHunterWorld



HMS Magpie part of the Royal Navy hydrographic squadron is the navy's smallest vessel, just 18 metres in length. Commissioned in June 2018 she carries out inshore survey work around Britain's coasts, harbours and inland waterways.


HMS Magpie Royal Navy The motto of HMS Magpie āLux in tenebris lucetā (shine light into darkness) reflects her mission to ensure safe passage in areas she surveys and records.



#OnThisDay 1996 the largest survey vessel ever built for the Royal Navy was launched at Appledore in Devon. The survey work she conducts is critical to the UK's defence and her small crew work hard to keep her mapping the ocean floor.
