Extinction alert. In my latest paper, I examine the status of the barking owl in south-western Australia. I identify just 10 reliable sightings in the past 20 years, with only 9 museum skin specimens known. The last specimen is from 1963. bioone.org/journals/bulle… 1/3

Are you seeing the next generation peeking out of a tree hollow or nest box? Trees provide vital habitat, we have a lot to learn about wildlife use of tree hollows and supplementary nest boxes. Sugar glider pictured

Trees require time to grow! Obviously, you might say, but it’s difficult for us humans to fathom hundreds or thousands of years. No doubt we’ll all find this story interesting. abc.net.au/news/2022-11-0…

Breeding hollows are a scarce resource (Hollows as Homes). Unlike Watermelon (011) not all cockies have access to prime real estate. Many eyes on the lookout help map their location and availability, but also to identify pairs. #CitSci tinyurl.com/84esnp69 @spotteron 5/7

@BigCityBirds I have no idea what is happening here. The normal pair that have this hollow are very recognisable because of severe BFD. These 2 not as bad. Is this a new pair trying to take the Hollows as Homes over or last seasons chicks reminiscing, who can know.
