And it is a library! A wonderful, rich library of housing research from our most leading, talented thinkers + authors. Across local knowledges, and of national patterns and trends, AHURI’s library is unmatched as a resource for accessible peer-review work. HappyBirthday AHURI 🎂

Adelaideians! Treat yourselves to this conversation on the Adelaide property market. Home ownership (of housing property) is our great enabler for flexibility and freedom in life, like working from home, doing what you love, and living near who you love! podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/the

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody! Today and every day, let’s remember the importance of giving back and showing our gratitude to those who have given us so much.

I'm increasingly of the view that the assetification of housing since financial deregulation means we should be thinking of home ownership (and associated policy) less as 'owning a home that happens to be an asset' and more like 'owning an asset that happens to be a home'.

But in Oz, social housing is, so often, market housing. Might it be PUBLIC (as in not privately owned social) HOUSING that we need? (though better is good, so we’ll take this social housing win nonetheless)

Crackingly good new work that frames housing as elemental in exacerbating the crisis of social reproduction in 4 ways “depletion, disruption, redomestication, and recommodification”. Congrats David Madden this is terrific

Surprisingly, ignoring worries can improve mental health. Evidence: After practice blocking out fears, people were less anxious—and less depressed 3 months later—especially if they had high anxiety or PTSD. Not all concerns demand attention. Some thoughts are worth dismissing.

I’ve been advocating for banks to ignore HECS/HELP debts since I was elected. Great to see the treasurer come on board! These are no default government debts that shouldn’t hold young homebuyers back.

Different things impact differently circumstanced people, differently. Changes to lending criteria enable increased access to credit finance. In mortgaged owner occupation, & especially for new market entrants, how is increasingly diversified access to finance not game changing?

I was lucky enough to attend a seminar where Adriana shared an early version of this absolutely great work that is so important! Well done Adriana đŸ‘ŒđŸ»

Various housing policies announced today helpful to the lucky few mostly mid/hi income families who benefit (and likely would become homeowners anyway) but nothing for those who genuinely struggle financially.

Another piece of great work from Ben Phillips ! Important findings and great impact! Also demonstrates that the word “crisis” is problematic, and needs to be nuanced, categorised, contextualised and therefore, more clearly defined. Well done Prof Phillips!

Treat social housing as critical infrastructure - an idea as relevant to Ireland as it is to the UK. theguardian.com/society/2025/m
