Have been mulling the following recently: 1. When I was in college, there were retired people auditing ~all of my lecture classes 2. Turned out this was a program offered by the college to retired people who lived near campus 3. I decided that was how I wanted to spend my

As a designer of bus networks it is always great to hear that something I did improved somebody's life. In this case better access to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park for Cleveland cyclists.

Why does Amtrak hide platform information like it's a state secret, only to be revealed at precisely the time to cause the most chaos? I know my track in Japan like two weeks ahead of time. LOL

We experts are not telling you that New York City buses could never be free. We're telling you that if they were, there would be a lot fewer of them.

If you make New York City buses free but not the subway you are prohibiting the transit agency from planning the buses and subway to work together. People will demand a bus line duplicating every subway line so they can avoid the fare. Huge waste of resources.

Let me be clear: ANYONE who vandalized Downtown or looted stores does not care about our immigrant communities. You will be held accountable.

In its best moments @cityjournal is an interesting source of conservative commentary on urban issues. But this headline conflating rioters with protesters is pure hysteria. Almost all Los Angeles protestors are peaceful, much as this may exasperate some in the media.

New York City: This tweet was unexpectedly popular, so I should add that I don't recommend choosing a mayor of New York based only on the issue of free bus fares. Vote your own values. If Mamdani wins, I expect he'll climb down from this position as many have done before him.
