During Covid the relationships our officers built with students at school continued. Students & families reached out to SROs about issues in the community, SROs continued to check in with students. That would not have occurred without the deeper bond they built before at school.

Many students were unaware this issue was up for debate. Mohammed is a leader and wanted to show his love and respect for his mentors.

Article VIII, Section 7 of the Constitution of Virginia: "The supervision of schools in each school division shall be vested in a school board, to be composed of members selected in the manner, for the term, possessing the qualifications, and to the number provided by law."

The Commonwealth was literally created on the backs of enslaved Africans. At Richmond Public Schools we will continue to study that and be honest about its profound implications for our students and families today.

There seems to be a growing sense among Alexandria City High School students that the school board’s decision to require a half hour of SEL instruction in students’ schedules every day is instead going to remove the SEL supports many already rely on.

Count me among teachers who saw enormous benefit to L&L. Students created clubs & activities, strengthened existing ones and came for support much more often than they previously had after school. Thank you students for leading and Alexander Duncan, III for continuing the conversation.
