Miami's drivers are getting CAUGHT. Miami-Dade Schools school bus cameras reveal the severity of Miami's aggressive driving problem, catching 11,500 violations in 2 wks. That's ~1,150 Miami drivers PER DAY violating the law at the expense of children's safety. wsvn.com/news/local/mia…

#WeekWithoutDriving on my way to Florida City for “Walk to School” Day at West Homestead K-8 Center with UHealth BikeSafe

An amazing #WalkToSchool Day with Miami-Dade Schools today! Thank you, West Homestead K-8 Center for having us, and the huge community support from South Region Office Miami-Dade DTPW FDOT District 6 Miami-Dade TPO Miami-Dade Fire Rescue @MiamiDadePD Juan Martin, @southdadeband and many, many more! #WHK8

The big community Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day in Coconut Grove Miami is ON! The post-hurricane rescheduling has allowed us to recognize the Ruby Bridges Foundation this year as part of the community efforts to make walking and cycling to school safer for kids and families.

It's National Injury Prevention Day. Let's start by encouraging engineers to eliminate right turns on red AND any walk signal that conflicts with green light. Make traffic signals unambiguous for the safety of kids and families. #BeInjuryFree America Walks @injuryfreekids

Meanwhile, at Frances S. Tucker El, our sister program, UHealth WalkSafe, was busy working with Captain Dan Kerr's team to calm traffic. This school has more #walktoschool participants, and closing down Williams Ave eliminated the right turn on red dangers at the school's present crosswalk.

Sadly, 40 years of broken promises by many (not the funders of our grant, but others) also meant that in the year 2024, there are still kids forced to walk on a dirt path to school. On Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day, no less. Unacceptable.

Happy National Child’s Day! Today recognizes that every child has the opportunity to pursue the limits of their talents and ambitions. Active transportation is important for children, and we encourage everyone to support it! Karina Kristensen University of Miami #WalkSafe #BikeSafe
