My first column for the Echo and Devon Live News is now up! I’ll be one of the regular rotating columnists, but very happy to be first out of the blocks in our first week of a new parliament - and a new The Labour Party government. devonlive.com/news/news-opin…

Great to chat to residents in #Pennsyvlvania ward this morning with local councillor martyn snow and Labour volunteers. Had some good chats about national policies and neighbourhood issues, with several casework issues to get back to people on. #Labourdoorstep

Some of Exeter’s most fascinating buildings are opening up to the public for free as part of Exeter’s Heritage Open Days. The ten-day festival runs from Friday 6 to Sunday 15 September in venues across the city and the rest of England. tinyurl.com/3ztaejeh

Since the 1st of January we have put an incredible 738 bikes back into use at Ride On. That's an awful lots of bikes. It has been very busy, and as Exeter College and the University of Exeter students return, it shows no sign of slowing down. Another 262 and we'll break 1000!

Yesterday I sat down with Louise Haigh, Secretary of State for #Transport, to discuss some of the transport issues we’re facing in #Exeter. I thanked her for recommitting to #activetravel, and raised the investment we need to make #PolsloeBridge and #StThomas stations accessible.

National renewal is our mission. It can’t be achieved by soundbite - only by hard work over the long term. That’s what we’ll deliver.

Our state schools need teachers more than private schools need embossed stationery. Our children need mental health support more than private schools need new pools. Our students need careers advice more than private schools need AstroTurf pitches. inews.co.uk/news/private-s…

It's the 8th of October and we've put 834 bikes back into use in 2024. We've nearly put the same number of bikes back into use as we did in the whole of 2023. With a fair wind, we'll break 7000 bikes saved since the charity was formed. Thanks to everyone for your bike donations!

Today I asked Department for Energy Security and Net Zero Secretary Ed Miliband what the government will do nationally to follow Exeter Labour Party’s lead in fitting solar panels to council homes. A green transition has to include council tenants, so they get the benefit of lower bills and renewable energy too.

My latest column is in the Echo print edition, and online now. I talk about my first three months as MP, giving my maiden speech, and about many of the organisations I’ve had the absolute pleasure to visit and the people I’ve met across #Exeter. devonlive.com/news/news-opin…

Our water system needs fixing. I have launched an Independent Water Commission - the largest review of the sector for 35 years. We will upgrade our crumbling water infrastructure to clean up our waterways for good. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Here's a look back on some of our previous entrants. Each of these organisations are amazing in their own right for the work they do for our city and surrounding areas. Are you doing something similar? Enter now: exetersustainabilityawards.co.uk

Sunny morning out talking to residents in #Whipton with Exeter Labour Party councillors Liz for Labour and Ruth Williams, along with our fantastic activists. Our councillors are doing a fantastic job, organising a community litter pick of a lane, and setting up a neighbourhood watch.
