So on Monday night in my moth trap was this beastie. It’s a female Nothochrysa fulviceps or Red-headed Lacewing. Turns out from current records it’s about the 19th for Britain! How ironic that the rarest thing to grace my moth trap isn’t a moth 😂

Despite not seeing the mega alert for 3 hours I still managed an after work twitch to RSPB Rainham Marshes 15 years ago today for this White-tailed Plover. It wasn’t too far from where I’d ticked Sociable Plover 5 years previously. Caspian or Oriental next 🤞🏻😂

11.7.25. 579 moths of 104 species. Highlights were Herts 3rd Blastobasis rebeli (I also trapped the 2nd in 2022!) and Herts 4th Moitrelia obductella. Garden 2nd records of Epinotia nisella, Yellow-tail and Plain Pug were also notable. #teammoth

20 years ago today I drove overnight to Cemlyn Bay,Anglesey. Here around 5am I saw my first ever Sooty Tern as it flew around the tern colony before flying out to sea and vanishing for good. My good fortune then ended when my car’s thermostat broke and I had to be towed home!
