A 36-year-old woman with anorexia was starving. In Colorado, that was enough to qualify for assisted death. My piece in The New Statesman asks why Parliament has not yet closed the loopholes in the #AssistedDyingBill that allow malnutrition to qualify as a terminal illness.

"They knew she was suicidal. But they didn’t treat it as suicide. They called it medical aid in dying. As if it were healthcare." Dangerous loophole in #Leadbeaterbill allows #assistedsuicide for "terminal" diagnosis of anorexia . Brilliant Chelsea Roff newstatesman.com/comment/2025/0…

Christopher Lyon The Other Half MAiD in Canada has completely undermined suicide prevention by facilitating #AssistedSuicide. I called the MAiD coordination service from the psych ward and they knew it and still they proceeded with no pause at all. I honestly feel like a MAiD survivor. I fear for the UK.
