Writing about the Canucks since 1991. Now also talking about them for Sportsnet TV and radio. And I still don't have to work for a living.

AHL GM Ryan Johnson on Canucks Calder Cup win: “It’s building something. At the end of the day, we're trying to develop players to win a Stanley Cup. But you have to win at a certain level first. You develop to win, but you've got to win to develop.”

It’s not the championship Canucks fans crave, but Abby’s Calder Cup is a big win for the organization. GM Ryan Johnson: “We've been going through this since the middle of April, and nobody ever wavered. They taught me something about winning.” sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/ab…

Here is an offensive mixtape of Braeden Cootes' game. We were high on Cootes all season (reached our top-10 at one point). Wicked release, some dynamic handling flashes, and a lot of inside-focused attacking. He has more room to grow into his high-end tools. #Canucks

Canucks need immediate help at C, but they’ll get it eventually with top pick Braeden Cootes. WHL captain views Brayden Point as a template. GM Patrik Allvin: “Well, I’d take that.” But Canucks must now pivot to other trade options. sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/ca…

The Canucks’ centre-heavy draft emphatically addressed organizational needs down the middle of the ice. But currently facing a potential crisis, Allvin will work to acquire a top-six centre who can provide immediate help. (Iain MacIntyre) sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/ce…

Demko agent Jordan Neumann : Thatcher loves the city and the fans. He believes in this team and really wants to win in Vancouver.

Canucks obviously mitigate risk with 3-year term on Demko. But the fact they’re willing to extend now, rather than see how he starts next season, is proof that club believes he’ll be back healthy and in top form. And 6x6 for play-driving Conor Garland is a no-brainer.

I’m not saying it’s a good chance the #canucks sign Boeser. But it’s not “no chance” which is where I thought things were earlier this morning.

Brock Boeser never wanted to leave Canucks. Was hurt by how things were handled at the deadline, but follows his heart to stay in Vancouver when team circled back. Huge morning for team — resigning its own players who want to stay.

The trade is one for none. Which is to say I’m exchanging my semi-retired TSN life of the last five years — doing the World Junior Championships, NHL Draft Rankings, a handful of Toronto Maple Leaf broadcasts, TradeCentre and Free Agent Frenzy — for a fully-retired life of doing

New contracts for Brock Boeser, Conor Garland and Thatcher Demko (3 Americans eager to play in Vancouver) is proof Canucks believe in themselves. Tyler Myers: “We’re building to become a contending team. The last few days, we got closer to that.” sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/re…

One last phone call and it was suddenly a date between Canucks and Brock Boeser, whose heart never made the free-agency train. Boeser: “I still had a weird feeling about everything. When that phone call came, I told my agent: ‘Get a deal done.'” sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/bo…

At dinner in DET w Hughes, Demko and Pettersson, on Zoom w leadership group, Adam Foote’s message: It’s your team; take it. “They’re going to take care of each other because if I have to do it, they're not going to be too happy. It's a good group.” sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/it…
