New paper from @mabelsyd , Tracey Chapman & me. First from Mabel's PhD 🎉 sciencedirect.com/science/articl… How does mating affect what animals eat? We know that mating really changes what females eat (in at least some species). After mating, females eat more & prefer more protein. 🧵

New analysis from the The Royal Society shows just how high UK visa costs for researchers are compared to upfront costs for similar visa routes in 13 other countries. Here, we take a look at how the UK compares to countries in the G7 included in the analysis 🔍⤵️ 1/5

The final chapter of my PhD is on bioRxiv: we show evidence of Slower-Z effect in Schistosoma japonicum. Selective constraints for female-biased genes on diploid Z are relaxed due to sheltering by the W gametolog.

New paper! Our stick insects have weird chromosome segregation. The major centromere protein, CenH3, binds to the autosomes in a monocentric pattern, but in a holocentric pattern on the X. doi.org/10.1101/2024.0…

Starting on my journey to Montreal for #Evol2024! I'm not presenting this time, but some members of my research group are. First up is Chedhawat (Tim) Chokechaipaisarn (not on Twitter), who'll be talking about density-dependent dispersal and sex ratios (Sat, 16:30, Room 516C).

If you're at Evolution Meetings #Evol2024 in Montréal, I'm going to talk about modelling spatial networks and host parasite eco-evolutionary dynamics in the Evolutionary Theory II session. Talk starts at 14:45 today (27 July) in room 518B.

This is an excellent opportunity to exchange information, opinions, and ideas together with female researchers from Japan, England, and France who are active in the fields of science and entomology, and simultaneous Japanese-English interpretation will be provided.

Kicking off the new year, our paper by Leo Speidel et al. is out describing what to me is a breakthrough in ancient genomics. By using genealogies to study ancestry we can get much more resolution to study finer-scale history. We call this method Twigstats.

We are lending Britain an iconic jewel of our shared history: the Bayeux Tapestry. This is the first time this national treasure will leave French soil. It marks an unprecedented cultural partnership between our two countries — a powerful symbol of our Entente amicale.
