Having spent 5 yrs in South Africa, I noticed that many people who left SA in the late 80s/early 90s are apartheid refugees--not refugees of apartheid. They migrate & reinvent themselves but often hold residual racism. Elon Mask left SA only 6 months before Mandela was freed...
