NPR memo: Pope Leo offers thoughts for journalists. The times are “both difficult to navigate and to recount,” and demand that “each one of us” should “never give in to mediocrity.”

A powerful essay by The New York Times publisher AG Sulzberger acknowledging all the missteps by the press (including, and I agree, too many pundits and not enough reporters) but concluding that "The role of a free and independent press in a healthy democracy is under direct attack."

In its first 100 days, the Trump Administration has relied heavily on ambiguity, misdirection, and plausible deniability to accomplish its aims. It’s a model that has parallels to other countries that have slid into autocracy, Andrew Marantz writes. nyer.cm/3hAgvCQ

The Trump administration know-nothings cut funding for science in a way that is equal parts cruel and idiotic. Imagine rejecting research because it uses the words "women's health." Women aren't some DEI construct; they're half of humanity and key to continuing all of it.
