Several families have been displaced after a 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck Papua New Guinea on 24 March. IOM Papua New Guinea is working with authorities to assess and assist the affected population through the deployment of the displacement tracking matrix, shelter, and non-food items.

This week, IOM conducted further workshop training with PNG judicial agencies. The workshops are providing training in detection, investigation and prosecution of human trafficking activity in the country.

Last week IOM conducted workshops on looking at Strategic Planning at Border Points of Entry to PNG. Workshops also discussed findings from baseline assessments that IOM conducted at seven border points around the country.

This week IOM, with the financial support of the Japanese Government is conducting a 4 day in-person training for 30 border officials from ICSA, Customs and NAQIA stationed at points of entries in Port Moresby, Vanimo, Buka, Kieta, Daru and Lae.
