On Sat, 18 JAN 25, we gathered at the Irish Memorial in TIBNIN, for the first time in over a year, for our monthly memorial ceremony to remember those who have died during overseas service. Their sacrifice and service will never be forgotten.

Yesterday, UNIFIL marked 47 years since its establishment on March 19, 1978. Among the first peacekeepers to arrive were Irish soldiers, continuing a proud tradition of peacekeeping. This event was held for the first time in two years.

On Wed, An Tánaiste and Minister for Defence, Mr. Simon Harris, visited UNP 2-45. It was a special occasion for him to meet with Irish soldiers on his first visit to UNIFIL, see our operations firsthand and witness the important work being carried out as part of the mission.

IRISHPOLBATT’s ordnance section and C-IED instructors recently conducted vital C-IED training for the manoeuvre companies, enhancing their ability to identify explosive threats. This important training greatly enhances operational safety.

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation between UNIFIL and the LAF, IRISHPOLBATT recently donated solar panels, batteries and fittings to the LAF to enhance their operational capabilities, reaffirming UNIFIL’s commitment to supporting our Lebanese counterparts.

During this week’s Unit Evaluation, IRISHPOLBATT faced multiple scenarios, including a CASEVAC exercise testing the skills of manoeuvre companies and medics. Drills like these are key to mission readiness and lifesaving performance under pressure.

IRISHPOLBATT’s Battalion Mobile Reserve hosted the Sector West and Force Commander’s Reserves for a 3-day joint exercise featuring capability displays, casualty evacuation, joint patrols and a live fire exercise - highlighting the strength and cohesion of their unified efforts.

Today, members of the 125 and 126 Inf Bns gathered in Tibnin for the monthly memorial ceremony to honour those who died while serving overseas with UNIFIL during the month of May. Their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Today at Camp Shamrock (UNP 2-45), Lt Col Rockett handed over command of IRISHPOLBATT to Lt Col McDonagh, marking the end of 125 Inf Bn’s deployment and the start of 126 Inf Bn’s. A proud moment for all involved.

On this International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, we pause to remember and honour all who have served — especially those who gave their lives in the pursuit of peace. For over 40 years, Ireland has proudly contributed to UNIFIL, standing firm in our commitment to peace.

On Thursday 5th JUNE, the 126 Inf Bn Engineers conducted a Clearance Patrol on the perimeter of Camp Shamrock UNP 2-45. This operation ensures a safe and secure environment for all IRISHPOLBATT personnel.
