U.S. sodamakers don't use sugar because: 1. The government puts tariffs/quotas on sugar 2. The government subsidizes corn, making high-fructose corn syrup an attractive substitute. Erase 1 and 2, and most sodamakers would use sugar without anyone having to tell them to.

Not content with surrendering the ability to make our own regulations for food and agriculture or setting the cost of our own carbon taxes to the EU, the government has decided we should pay the EU for the privilege as well. We have chosen to enter a protection racket.

This is a very important point. MacIntyre said the Enlightenment project failed and, indeed, "was bound to fail." That's nonsense. By any sensible measure, the Enlightenment project was a resounding success. Most of us living today owe our lives to it.

Don't believe tariffs are taxes? Here's the Federal Government saying exactly that in a release tariff proponents are celebrating for not showing any price increase from tariffs...

All those Bond/Bourne/Hunt films about stolen lists of spies on encrypted hard drives should be about someone in HR accidentally sending a plain-text Reply-All message to everyone in the MI6 email address book with a file called "All_Our_Spies_24_final_final.xlsx" attached to it.

It’s Year 14 of $93 billion Artemis return to moon program, and we haven’t returned to moon. Once we went to moon in 8 years, when far less was known. Aerospace contractors happy though! Punchline: NASA says return to moon will take at least two more years and $10 billion more.

I wrote in March that I expect tariffs to have a negligible effect on inflation, even though tariffs do raise prices. I explain why this apparent contradiction is no such thing, with some help from Bryan Cutsinger, in this new piece National Review nationalreview.com/2025/07/why-ta…

With CBS cancelling The Late Show after 33 years, here is that time Chris Farley went to see David Letterman in 1996 with the greatest talk show entrance in the history of talk show entrances.

President Trump announced on Truth Social that reciprocal tariffs take effect on August 1st but there is still no notice in the Code of Federal Regulations, and they can't take effect until that happens. The clock is ticking I wonder what they are waiting for?

NEW: There’s been a lot of discussion lately about rising graduate unemployment. I dug a little closer and a striking story emerged: Unemployment is climbing among young graduate *men*, but college-educated young women are generally doing okay.

"What is illegal content?" "It's speech you're not allowed by law to say." "So what you are saying is: "In Europe one is free to speak, not free to speak when forbidden by law" - correct?" "Yes" "Try that again, please."

Wish I had thought of the “Canceling an unprofitable show is fascism that must be investigated by Congress” strategy when they got rid of FIREFLY.
