Busy few days! Now weāre sampling the gasses, fluids and rocks of the Kolumbo volcano hydrothermal system to understand how these hydrothermal sites are outgassing the magmatic system. Itās bubbly! National Oceanography Centre UK Research and Innovation

Science is a team sport and weāre not the only people working around Santorini. Today we collected and redeployed two seismometers to assist our colleagues GEOMAR_en better monitor recent seismic activity. This is them before they went back into the water. Recovering the final OBEM! Weāve deployed and recovered 67 instruments on this expedition and, while you never put anything youāre not willing to lose in the sea, itās very nice to bring everything home. Thanks to the crew for their support with operations. National Oceanography Centre Natural Environment Research Council

Research led by Earth Sciences at the University of Manchester and co-led by NOC has discovered that deep-sea microplastic hotspots are created by fast-moving underwater avalanches. š Find out more about the powerful flows and their impacts on our website š° noc.ac.uk/news/scientistā¦

Thanks to Natural Environment Research Council for enabling this research which shows how turbidity currents transport and concentrate microplastics in the deep sea
