On the cover image: In 1891, a group of Black singers travelled from South Africa to perform in England, with two boys in the choir, Albert Jonas and John Xiniwe. The boys' photos were often playful, staged as if a metaphor for gaze. Here is their story: npr.org/sections/goats…

"Don’t the Pelicot trial & Jackson Brodie novels show... that an essential feature of male power is being allowed to choose not to listen – to reason, to conscience, to evidence, to a woman’s testimony, whatever its form? ...what women – what all of us – are expected to ignore?"

Re: academic ethics, if you’re a scholar with a large following & your contribution to online on race discourse incites targeted pile ons or racist attacks against specific groups, then a risk assessment should determine what mitigations are needed to reduce the risk of harm…

@yumcoconutmilk It speaks to a refusal to move beyond performative allyship in British academia and a general myopia around race, racialization and harm. A lot of people are distressed by the displays of racism against multiple communities that wouldn’t have happened if care was centred first.

Look just how outspokenly indignant major global health, public health & medical journals, scholars and organisations’ response has been to Trump’s policies vs Gaza genocide. An observer would be right in thinking that we care more about our careers than about lives or justice.

Amit Aryal No worries at all! I’m talking here more about the injustice we ourselves do, make worse, are implicated in, and look away from as we do our work, which include various forms and manifestations of epistemic injustice. But please, do read the book; it’s freely available online!

Surrogacy centres the rights and interests of the intended parents with little consideration for those of the biological mother and child. It is an industry that mostly targets poor women. Choice feminism and altruism are weak arguments. Read more here: peh-med.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…

The lazy language of "lifestyle" strikes again. Look closely. You'll see that rather than "lifestyle", it's the social circumstances (created, perpetuated, worsened by social policy) that actually kill & make people sick. This is one of many ways epistemic injustice manifests.

How epistemic injustice in research kills: A story in this essay reminds us that: When the excuse for bad research is "‘Nobody could have realised..." we should always respond with "Really – nobody?" "The other side of a culture of silence and silencing is one of not listening.

I think a lot of you are incredibly short sighted. Society is working VERY hard to ensure women do not get justice for the abuse they face. There is a deliberate and ongoing campaign to use any and everything to invalidate our experiences. Why feed into that more? I don’t get it.
