The new METR results show that experienced developers think their productivity is increasing, but it's actually decreasing when using AI tools. Another place humans have this gap between perceived and actual productivity is when they're on CNS drugs like adderall.

Sergey Ovchinnikov I absolutely hate this trend. These 'technical reports' are not scientific. They aren't falsifiable, don't reveal any real insights. Can't believe bioRxiv accepts them since they are basically just advertisements, and poor ones at that. This is why peer review is actually good.

Aviv Spinner But these aren't meant to be scientific publications - they deliberately lack enough detail to allow reproduction (because they are private businesses with IP to protect!). It's more like a brochure advertising their capabilities to prospective clients. Not a fair comparison.

Come join us next week! London has many "biomolecular modeling" companies and academic labs, yet there's no stand-out in-person forum, where everyone can discuss the latest advancements together - let that be in modeling of proteins, RNA, and/or all biomolecules of life!

You're a 13 year old girl sitting in a maths class thinking 'what has this got to say about my life?' You get home & say the same to your family who get a bit twitchy because they think a bit of maths might be useful. Part 2 of our chat with students Ellie Guha & Sienna Jacobs.

Great time to be doing machine learning for biosciences in London: thanks to Jakub Lála 🦸‍♂️ David Miller Barney Hill for inviting me to talk about generative models for drug-like molecules. This was #001 of the In Silico event series follow them to be in the loop for the next one.
