My comment this morning to the Greenock Telegraph on the decision to snub Ferguson Marine in my region for a yard in Poland. Greenock and the Clyde desperately needed this contract. I’ve also submitted a question to be raised in Parliament on Tuesday should it be selected. 📖 👇

My topical question on Ferguson Marine was not selected but I cannot stress the importance that was placed on the yards long term business plan which relied heavily on winning the small vessel contract. Scotlands Auditor General made it abundantly clear in his own investigation:

The Deputy First Minister says there’s no need to worry. The awarding of the small vessel contract to Poland not Port Glasgow won’t affect Ferguson Marine. Apparently there’s a plethora of contracts. Unfortunately for her, the Auditor General thought otherwise. 👀 👇

I was thrilled to introduce Suzanne’s Law into law in Holyrood this week. After years of pressure and working constructively with ministers, I was able to amend the law to ensure that murderers who knowingly do not disclose the whereabouts of their victim could stay in prison.

I’m really saddened by this news. Christina and I got on really well and worked together on many issues over the years. Mutual respect is often overlooked in politics. More importantly though, she was someone’s partner, mum, gran, colleague and friend. Thoughts with Keith today

Yesterday was strange in Holyrood. Lots of sadness but we got on with business with questions/answers and debates. I actually think for a small moment in time it felt like we were all treating each other with some much needed decency and respect whilst getting on with the job.

Was a great pleasure to welcome Mayor Chou from the beautiful Pingtung county of #Taiwan to Edinburgh this week. (Near the incredible Kending national park) We had a good chat about our respective ageing populations and how social care works and differs between our countries.

Last week I was really pleased to support Liz Smith CBE MSP and her Outdoor Education Bill. We have amazing facilities in Arran Outdoor Education Centre but like many they are perilously at risk when budgets are reviewed. We need a statutory right to outdoor education for our young people. I had the great honour and privilege today of sharing a few comments about our colleague Christina Mckelvie in the motion of condolence. Her sense of fun, passion and cross party working is a lasting legacy and my thoughts are with her family, friends and colleagues.
