I especially loved teaching picture book intensive at Vermont College of Fine Arts where I was a fellow learner. Two of my former students are on the Texas Library Assn. Topaz list with me--and I met Catalyst Press founder, publisher of my new almost-true-story in verse, at VCFA, too. See you at TLA next Wednesday?

Ten New Children’s Books That Reveal the Wondrous Act of Storytelling | Literary Hub buff.ly/T13036I

lithub.com/ten-new-childr… Love it that Clara is on this list. So many ways of storytelling including OpenHeartsBigDreams bilingual books my Ethiopian-American grandkids helped me spark. And standing for science through storytelling: key for our human future? Let's discuss at Texas Library Assn.

We need libraries and librarians! We need books for kids everywhere! Maybe I'll see some of you this week. OpenHeartsBigDreams Catalyst Press Texas Library Assn.

#SchoolLibrarianDay Thanks #libraryheroes I met this week at Texas Library Assn. who are taking my Texas Topaz picture book and my new Catalyst Press mostly true story of my childhood book and OpenHeartsBigDreams #bilingual books (also celebrated at #IBBY this week) out to new readers. #Grateful

Happy #NationalWildlifeWeek! In 'The Clues are in the Poo,' by Karen Chin, Jane Kurtz, & Francisco Riobolos, Karen Chin is hunting for treasure. But she's not interested in gold or jewels…she's interested in poo. Add to your collection→ hubs.ly/Q03dp6mK0

Happy birthday, Clara in #NationalWildlifeWeek She was born about 100 years before the word "scientist" was--but into a world where people were eager to know and understand more, more, more. Thank you to my daughter 18th-century expert, and Simon Kids for helping with her story.

We want to inspire young conservationists in #Ethiopia and I'm raising money so Dr Bruktawit Abdi can use titles like this to help Ethiopian kids see how. EWCP Ethiopian Wolf Conservation Canis Simensis need a lot of help and they need it now! OpenHeartsBigDreams

First my grandkids worked on the story with me. Then #Ethiopian and American artists created art with kids in Addis Ababa. Then two teachers gave me story suggestions + one of them created new illustrations. Now OpenHeartsBigDreams has gotten it into new languages! Fly, turtle, fly!

#TeacherAppreciationWeek Mom taught her girls at home in #Ethiopia and I was lucky to learn to read from someone who loved to read. Then (as I wrote in my new book): Boise, Idaho, and real school for a year. Awkward! But I still did love school and my teacher. Catalyst Press

I wrote about getting to know my grandparents and Eastern Oregon cousins in my upcoming Catalyst Press book--and this week got to connect with one of those cousins and discuss family history as we can piece it together. Can't wait to read from the book in her community in July.

Ari Ali, director, will join me and my author sister to talk about this new documentary--June 22 in Portland. It offers a look at our families' history in #Ethiopia including boarding school, culture shock, ripple effects. Catalyst Press
