Fantastic to hear that CCRC's very own Prof. Lisa Alexander has been awarded the prestigious 2024 Copernicus Medal! Prof. Alexander has been recognized for her work on high-quality datasets and state-of-the-art climate models lnkd.in/dT6n7p2e UNSW Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes

Lead by Martin Jucker , the 2024 The Australian Academy of Science Elizabeth and Frederick White Research Conference will take place in Melbourne, 20-22 August, and be dedicated to atmospheric dynamics. Expressions of interest are open until 30 April. dynamicsworkshop2024.com

Another new postdoc opportunity, researching Australian monsoon and tropical climate variability with me and 21st Century Weather. Applications close 24 April. jobs.unimelb.edu.au/en/job/916516/…

Another new postdoc position! Level B Research Fellow in Atmospheric Modelling working with Prof Todd Lane within our growing 21st Century Weather group jobs.unimelb.edu.au/en/job/916553/…

Thought recent Australian droughts have been severe? New research suggests droughts could be much worse -even without climate change. Fantastic effort leading this study by Dr Georgy Falster and Nicky Wright paper: hess.copernicus.org/articles/28/13… theconversation.com/a-20-year-mega…

Very happy to see the first paper published by my PhD student Xinyue Zhang UNSW Climate Change Research Centre ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes. The good news is that less than 4% of drylands will desertify due to climate change (poor land use practices could still do it though) nature.com/articles/s4324…

Just published a new paper demonstrating a method to explicitly include observational uncertainty (and error) in model evaluation. Are you evaluating a model? You might find this method useful. UNSW Climate Change Research Centre Climate Systems Hub doi.org/10.1088/2515-7… via IOP Environment
