This isn't true, but also the ability to correctly answer a few questions about three paragraphs of text is very important and depressingly rare.

Funny thing about Republican hostility to renewables, is that the intermittency of wind/solar is a huge problem if and only if you are committed to 100 percent phaseout of fossil fuels — if not, you can take the cheap electrons and use fossil peakers. slowboring.com/p/how-natural-…

this narrative is also completely false in that, despite the mayor’s own robust efforts to undermine his admin’s successes, there has been plenty of coverage of the positives

People talk themselves into getting mad about stuff but what happened here is that about 100 very left-wing economists signed a letter saying Milei would be a disaster. A much more mainstream take was that his dollarization plan was unworkable and indeed he hasn’t done it.

People of earth: We’re going to have to let Democrats down-play or distance themselves from former Presidents and policies that are unpopular where they’re running for office. Otherwise, we’re not going to win.

Counterpoint: if a Democratic politician and a Republican politician agree, is it possible they’re both protecting their parties’ interests over voters’?

Clearance rate defined as ā€œcases the cops say are solved per murderā€ has declined, but if you look at the ratio of murder convictions to murders it’s gone up! Police performance has improved, but by being less sloppy they made themselves look worse. slowboring.com/p/new-evidence…

Nothing makes me sympathize with Elon's longshot plan to elect a handful of independent senators to encourage fiscal discipline like being told that he should be trying to get a Balanced Budget Amendment passed instead. x.com/flvoicenews/st…

A couple of issues here: - There isn't 34 million able bodied people who aren't working on Medicaid (I suspect the confusion is with 38 m *adults*). - There are ~14 million able bodied adults on Medicaid. - Only ~4 m of those able bodied adults are not working.
