As Zam says, this is impressive work by shows Oxford Nanopore consensus call accuracy being better than illumina (with a deep learning caller, in bacteria) - I have huge COI (long established consultant for Oxford Nanopore and shareholder) but wanted to put this in short+long term context
Our preprint exploring the role of Ne and gene expression on purifying selection in penguins has been recommended by PCI Evolutionary Biology! Approaches can be extended to many non-model organisms, including using expression bins as a proxy for selection coefficients evolbiol.peercommunityin.org/articles/rec?i…
Please share! My lab will be hiring 2-3 postdocs over the coming months to study the genetic basis of behavioral traits in darters using brain transcriptomics & population genomics. First ad is posted here: tamus.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/TAMU_External/… #behavior #popgen #evolution #neuroethology
Out in MER! 𝐾𝑙𝑢𝑚𝑝𝑦: a new kmer-based tool by Gio Madrigal, Bushra Minhas, & Julian Catchen for evaluating and visualizing genome assemblies and sequence motifs using long-read sequencing data. Wiley Ecology & Evolution @iBioIllinois Read More: buff.ly/3KiIIuq
The Beck Lab is hiring an assistant researcher/lab manager or two KU Biology. Position starts this August in Lawrence KS. We are a 50/50 wet/dry lab and are looking for people with a wide range of skills. Must love mitochondria. Helpful if you love fish. employment.ku.edu/staff/28121BR
Awesome article (and photos of manakins!) just released today, written by Shelby Lawson on my recent paper with Angel G. Rivera-Colón, Kevin Bennett, Julian Catchen, Jeff Brawn and Mike Braun in Evolution Journal Check it out: buff.ly/3L3sar0 #ornithology #manakin #TeamManacus
Alida de Flamingh, Ph.D. talks about using #aDNA to investigate prey in the Tsavo Lions! Genomic Biology #SMBE2024 #TheGhostAndTheDarkness
Catherine Wilson & John Postlethwait published research in #G3journal that explores unique features of the zebrafish sex chromosome, identifying a gene regulatory block of the zebrafish genome responsible for overseeing the maternal-to-zygotic-transition: bit.ly/4cYCkVL
Happy to release Stacks v2.67 today. This release updates process_radtags to make it easier to use SRA data and to filter poly-G (error) runs coming from Nextseq/Novaseq machines + bugfixes. We also added a genotype depth filter to populations #RADseq catchenlab.life.illinois.edu/stacks/
