Syria is finally free from Bashar al-Assad and his brutal and criminal regime. I hope the Syrian people will be able to realize their aspirations to live free with dignity and equal citizenship without repression and authoritarianism.

Targeting and arresting journalists is always troubling but it’s even more concerning when authorities are acting based on dubious accusations and politically motivated reasons to shut down unpopular speech. Swiss authorities must immediately release Ali Abunimah Ignazio Cassis

This should never happen to anyone. Swiss officials who are responsible for mistreating Ali should be held accountable. Switzerland is a host country to multiple int’l organizations including several UN human rights bodies that have the mandate to investigate such abuses.

An outdated mining law from 1872 allows US companies to claim mineral rights on most federally owned land, much of which was taken from Indigenous people. A new report from HRW and the ACLU shows how the US government’s decision to permit Lithium Americas to mine at Thacker Pass

This is very troubling. Columbia University University has obligations to protect its students’ rights to engage in protest without fearing intimidation, discrimination, retaliation or unlawful and discriminatory punishment.

In a document instructing Mahmoud Khalil to appear in immigration court for removal proceedings, the Homeland Security disclosed the basis for its effort to deport him. As was widely suspected, it is relying on a provision of the 1952 Immigration and Naturalization Act that says the

Mahmoud Khalil’s unlawful and retaliatory detention flies in the face of United States’ most sacred constitutional principles and sets a dangerous precedent for government abuse of power to silence and punish dissenting voices.

NYU prides itself on being a global institution committed to academic freedom and the exchange of ideas. But punishing a student for using his voice to speak out against Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza is deeply troubling and runs counter to these values. theguardian.com/us-news/2025/m…
