Unfortunately, the trip was also a reminder of the desperately poor quality of Milwaukee's public amenities. Throughout the trip, I constantly passed public restrooms and water fountains, two things you'll scarcely ever find in a Milwaukee park.

Here's a neat ggplot2 trick. When using geom_sf_text() to label polygons, it uses the centroid, which often looks wrong if the polygon is a funny shape. To get better results, use the center of the max inscribed circle.

In rhetoric, this administration is only deporting "criminals", in reality, they are gleeful for the chance to go after people who came to the US as a baby and have done nothing but contribute positively to the only home they've known for decades. Fundamentally anti-American.

A "small town" is one with a single public high school where each grade's enrollment is under Dunbar's number. Glad I could clear this up.

Biked home from the brewer game, and the softball players are still playing at the end of my block. A food truck is waiting outside and local news just pulled up to shoot an interview for the 10 o'clock news. Feels like a real Milwaukee evening.

What would you say if you saw it in another country? A senator from a coequal branch of government dragged away by security to prevent him from asking a question of a Cabinet official and arrested

They'll lie about what happened to a U.S. Senator on video we can all see. They're lying about what's happening in LA - that's what Padilla was interrupting. They've been caught in so many lies about the disappearances to El Salvador. What wouldn't they lie about? What wouldn't

The Homeland Security Secretary is talking about "liberating" an American city from its own duly elected government. If you were waiting for a sign these people are wannabe fascists, you've got it now.

Great thread. In general, I think the Left, composed as it is mostly of humanities & arts grads, suffers from a debilitating lack of interest in technical problems.

the response to this piece is combining two potent forms of sexist misreading: assuming everything a woman does is an extension of her husband and not being able to tell when a woman is making a joke

Musk claimed 40% of calls to Social Security came from scammers. It was a lie. Leland Dudek — plucked from a midlevel job to run SS -- got an angry call from the WH. “The number is 40 percent,” Katie Miller told him. “Do not contradict the president" nytimes.com/2025/06/16/us/…
