Based on these numbers, if you’re a HCI PhD student right now, I think one great way to differentiate yourself in a competitive job market is by NOT studying AI.

One of the wealthiest universities in the country is complying in advance, shuttering all DEI offices, and replacing essential services for marginalized students with AI assistants. How fucking embarrassing!

I get why UAW would support the tariffs (eg efforts to limit free trade), but that only works in autoworkers favor if it results in reshoring of capacity. My assumption was that this would ⬇️ capacity bc of costs and potentially result in more offshoring. Am I missing something?

If you went to 1999 David Graeber and told him the US dismantled the postwar world order they painstakingly built because an ascendant China quietly took over the Bretton-Woods and UN systems and the US could no longer unilaterally control them, I think he’d get it.

Re-upping this thread because it's "I got an academic job season." New & upcoming profs, stop recruiting PhD students before you have a sense of yr department/unit. Prospective PhD students, be wary of joining a first-year professor as they likely have no idea what they're doing.

A few weeks ago, Stellantis laid off more than 900 of our UAW members, citing auto tariffs as the excuse. Now, the company's board of directors has approved a massive $2.6 billion payout for company shareholders. Why is it there's always money for Wall Street but never money for

I have a lot to say about this, especially the past decade of economic development practice dedicated to chasing these jobs 🤪

I have a new piece out about how the House reconciliation bill will harm rural households. Not only will it rural folks lose health coverage & food access, hospitals are more likely to close and businesses will struggle. All for a regressive tax cut. (link in next tweet)

I hope that academic journals start developing policies disallowing people to publish research that uses LLMs as human proxies. Have any journals taken this stance yet?
