Glad the US taxpayer has $36 billion laying around to be told the Army has no place in US-China future war — again. Must read from Jennifer Kavanagh Defense Priorities , always the straight shooter (link below)

Need to mention this every time the topic comes up: Israel cannot meaningfully damage Iran's nuclear program alone. It cannot mount a wholly effective air defense without US assistance. Netanyahu knows this.

The U.S. Army has been trying & failing to find its role in Asia for over a decade. The latest effort at "generational change" launched by Sec. Hegseth on April 30 will also come up short. For Responsible Statecraft, I explain why the Army can't "pivot to Asia." responsiblestatecraft.org/hegseth-army/

Very strong commitment from NATO to meet President Donald J. Trump 5% defense spending target. This is the new standard for our allies around the world, especially Asia. politico.eu/article/mark-r…

Armed neutrality is the most likely & most feasible outcome. And it's very achievable, even given constrained Western defense production & Ukrainian & Russian security concerns.

I think this tweet misrepresents what Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said. He didn’t make a firm commitment regarding Taiwan’s defense in his remarks and they were in line with strategic ambiguity. He was stating the obvious that an invasion of Taiwan would be bad for the region:

That is not what Secretary Hegseth said or implied, and this administration has so far consistently maintained ambiguity surrounding how the United States would respond to a Chinese attack on Taiwan.
