This week's live Forum 2029 event was excellent and we were privileged to have a fantastic panel. The full video will be uploaded soon. Here is Prof. Jeremy Gilbert making a definitive case for more democracy and basic nationalisation, for which there is mass support.

Emergency podcast!! Alan Finlayson and I cover the recent suspensions of Labour MPs, the maybe-launch of a new left party and why the government is so unpopular on this new episode of Culture, Power, Politics. Listen here or on any podcast app: culturepowerpolitics.org/2025/07/18/eme…

If you want an in depth emergency podcast briefing on Starmer’s latest round of factional butchery Jeremy Gilbert and Alan Finlayson have made it for you. As I’ve said before it’s long form (1 hr 42 mins) makes my podcast appear a bit short & light weight but hey it’s worth it! 1/2

The Cunliffe Report is a joke. Protecting water profiteers, screwing over billpayers. Scrap Ofwat, keep water privatised and hike bills by another 30%! Laughable. bbc.co.uk/news/live/c4g8…

Water privatisation has been a complete & utter failure. It is absurd that the government's report into the water industry didn't even consider public ownership. That's not a report. That's a political broadcast for the private sector. Put water back into public hands, now.

Jeremy Gilbert (@jemgilbert) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The Cunliffe commission was explicitly not allowed to consider renationalisation of water, a policy that has the support of 82% of voters. This is not democracy, and Starmer is handing the next election to Reform on a plate. gov.uk/government/pub…

Regardless of its awful moral and political content, the scale of professional deformation, isolation and myopia required to think that the libidinal bloodlust of far right protestors, journalists and politicians can be placated by minor tweaks to labour regulations is staggering

I hope the new party does well, Zack wins, Starmer is replaced by a soft left leader and the Lib Dems' progressive wing asserts itself. Cos honestly, an effective popular front against a Reform / Tory / Murdoch bloc will require ALL of those conditions to be met.

Meanwhile, a Labour government is considering overriding the courts in favour of the lending industry. theguardian.com/business/2025/….

It’s both. They both fear Corbynism as a threat and regard it as morally illegitimate because it isn’t run like a medium sized corporation or by people like them.

Hilarious that Corbyn would've happily just continued as a back bencher, content with calling out the government when necessary, but Labour had to go scorched earth with him. Sent everyone to try get his seat & failed & now they've got another party to compete with. Forensic.
