I saw someone say a) they work on Ethical AI and b) use ChatGPT all the time. I’m baffled, given that ChatGPT is unethical by design: made using stolen content, exploited labour, amplifying hegemonic views, and environmentally damaging.

Good thread on transparency steps IRCC vis-a-vis algorithmic and AI decision-making. If anything, it raises questions as to how these different applications operate on the ground and how their functions shift over time.

The Liberals will pass two pieces of legislation soon - Bills C2 and C5. Both use legitimate national interests as cover for erosion of civil liberties and federal override of provincial and Indigenous authority. Both will most certainly face court challenges.

Carney ran as the anti-U.S. guy. Once elected, he started pushing U.S. style policies. Bill C-2 gives ICE-like enforcement powers. Bill C-5 consolidates executive authority in a way that echoes Trump. Classic bait and switch.
