In a relatively narrow vote, the NY Senate voted to approve a bill allowing terminally ill patients to request lethal medication to end their life. Now it's on to Gov. Kathy Hochul -- who has not signaled whether she supports it. gothamist.com/news/ny-lawmak…

Additional Democratic lawmakers are coming out to talk to the approximately 30 demonstrators. Harlem Assemblymember Al Taylor is talking now. I’ve also spotted Phil Ramos and MaryJane Shimsky.

Two undocumented immigrants were arrested for shoplifting. When the local cops called ICE, a low-level offense put them on a path to deportation. Their case gets to the heart of the debate about whether NY should be a sanctuary state. A🧵on my latest -> gothamist.com/news/how-a-sho…

With the NY Senate having left town for the year (at least for now), we can declare RIP to bills it didn't pass. Such as ... the bill that would allow wine sales in NY grocery stores. Grocery stores put a little bit of muscle behind it this year. Didn't work.

Among the bills NY lawmakers passed last week: A set of new safety restrictions for the most advanced artificial intelligence models. But will Hochul sign it into law? And will the feds let it stand? Two major open questions. gothamist.com/news/ny-lawmak…
