Object 10 of 12: The Commodore 64’s commercial life ended before the internet, so early C64 culture was mainly material. The lucky few got *paper* invites to a demo party. Full story: jesperjuul.net/c64/history/#o… Jan 10th: Object 11 – Turrican II - keeping up with the Amiga #c64

In 2009, I tried extrapolating budget trendlines and thought it absurd that by 2031 some games would cost $500 million to develop. Yet it happened, and much sooner than that. (Consoles came out at a slower pace.)

Jesper Juul's excellent new book Too Much Fun: The Five Lives of the Commodore 64 Computer mentions a computer satire issue of Mad Magazine I hadn't seen. I checked our collections at The Strong Museum & we had it--fun to see the parodies, including one on the "Commode" computer corp

The American Journal of Play has kindly published a full interview with me about video games and my work. It is an honor but also disorienting to have reached the advanced stage of looking back on my career. Didn't I just start (checks watch)? museumofplay.org/app/uploads/20…

When we presented a detailed study about the Danish game industry last month, a young audience member asked us why we hadn't just asked ChatGPT? He apparently thought that AIs knew "everything", and didn't see any reason why you would gather new data. That is a problem.
