Over the next four weeks our youth will sharpen their qualitative research skills & produce products like a digital autobiography, a 100-word biography, a digital book critique, & a digital story that captures the impact of COVID-19 & Racial terror form a teenager’s perspective.

Youth will be telling their stories on their terms in their beautiful ways.

Our anchor text will be Stamped: Racism, Anti-racism, and You by Jason Reynolds News and @DrIbram. Our youth will interrogate this text, talk about the good and the bad, and provide recommendations for how teachers can use it in school with youth this year.

As I work #PursuingDopeLearning and #PursuingDopeTeaching alongside Buffalo youth, I appreciate their candor and realness. Today was particularly tough as the young people described the anti-racist, anti-blackness phrases they've been the victim of in their lives

If you read Chapters 6 of Stamped by Jason Reynolds News & @DrIbram those "racist ideas" of the 1700s find their ways into the perceptions and actions of people today. The chapter is really the birth of anti-blackness in this country.

Still, Jason Reynolds News & @DrIbram hope us to find love & truth in Chapter 7: "Africans are not savages." And neither are our teens & youth, & yet we have a system that treats them as such, where school discipline equals punishment, not restoring the dignity and humanity of youth
