Good to see the new exhibition Herbert Art Gallery & Museum curated by @johnypitts with Jason Scott Tilley yesterday. Lots of fantastic work by Joanne Coates. Jim Mortram and many others. Elaine Constantine work on the soul scene brings back memories, I must scan my negs of the scooter scene c2000.

The most amazing charity shop buy ever, thanks to Age UK Coventry&Warwickshire for taking care to find me with original letters and materials relating to pete james and George Shaw. Tom in the Leamington shop is brilliant and deserves 👏. So glad these important documents are now safely on my desk

An interesting couple of days listening to contemporary photographers, thanks to Dr Caroline Molloy (PhD) (she/her) for organising. Not a bad start to my 40th year too, thanks to @MelanieKKing.

Just finished this summer reading, thanks @SiobhanAngus and Everyone Active for entertaining the kids. Great conclusion which resonates with thinking through my thesis. ‘If we want to address the challenges of the present, the past holds so many potential answers for us’ p.229

In the 19thC, George Dawson said opening public libraries in Birmingham proved that 'a town like this' was more 'than a fortuitous concourse of human atoms' or 'a miserable knot of vipers struggling in a pot'. What will closing them say about our civic life and standards?

Spent a fascinating day with the wonderful Jo Gane experimenting with salt and silver using a recipe from 1835. Learned so much about the chemistry of photogenic drawing and calotype photography from a real expert.
