The plan doesn’t work if we only kind of stick to it. From the latest piece by Dr Siouxsie Wiles on The Spinoff on why staying in our bubble is so important: thespinoff.co.nz/covid-19/01-04…

1) There is a lot of talk about decaying antibodies. I would like to walk you through a few findings about antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 that we put on medRxiv on Friday. Ill do this slowly over the day (while being in nonstop conference calls). But I feel this needs to get out there.

Our paper on sex-based differences in the clearance of asymptomatic P falciparum infection is out!! We found that females cleared these infections ~2x faster than males in our cohort in Uganda. eLife - the journal (1/N) elifesciences.org/articles/59872

1) So, this morning I promised a little tweetorial about variants and here we go. This will be from a vaccine/antibody point of view only, I won't comment on how infectious they are or if they are more pathogenic (I'll leave that to Boris Johnson 😉).

Omicron + holiday travel. We're basically all about to be exposed. If you have immunosuppressed or elderly people in your family, test before seeing them! I plan to test each day I see my grandmother.

Today's update on SF/UC San Francisco numbers. Bottom line –huge increase in cases & test positivity. Hospitalizations still pretty benign (though early signs of an uptick). Most remarkable stat is our asymptomatic test positivity rate (ATPR) UCSF Health – now ~7%, or ~1-in-14.(1/16)
