“When real life is wanting one must create an illusion. It is better than nothing.” So grateful to The London Magazine for supporting/indulging my personal Chekhov fantasy and publishing two of my Chekhov-in-chain-restaurant poems

Elon Musk, the richest guy in the world, is going after USAID, which feeds the poorest people in the world. Next, he’ll go after the programs that impact you: Medicaid, Medicare, community health centers, Pell Grants, affordable housing. We can stop him.

Delighted to discover that a submission can be rejected through Submittable without an accompanying message or email to let you know; a whole new world of obsessing opens up...

Have been admiring the new The Observer this morning (it looks so good; sexy font & kerning) – then realised the wondrous Lauren Bensted is in it, with some lovely writing ❤️ observer.co.uk/style/features…

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a poet will get the idea for the greatest poem of their career while they are far too busy with their day job to even think about writing it 🫠

Hugely enjoying this little yellow Review and the surprising array of things between its covers. Tristram Fane Saunders has created something that feels genuinely excited by poetry qua poetry: bravo 💛

The thing is – it sounds good but it’s algorithmic and wholly without personality. Eccentricity and asymmetry may become the hallmarks of good writing in the AI-age (as I said yesterday to my Yr 12s about to write their personal statements)

‘Not lovable’? Bollocks. ‘Yet no one praises “Paradise Lost” without adding some cautionary qualification.’ Really? I guess I’m no one. Inject that stuff straight, no caution required

What a treat that the new Bad Lilies is out - badlilies.uk/issues. You can always trust Kathryn Gray and Andrew Neilson to have a top selection. Especially enjoyed seeing more poems by Donovan McAbee Jo Bratten sarah westcott and John Greening. Lovely work.

Is there anyone left on here who can translate medieval French? I've picked up about half of the right-hand text but am struggling with the left... (this is the Three Living and Three Dead from the Psalter of Bonne of Luxembourg)
