Great contributions from former Hons student Sarah Trevelyan and Jodi Brewster, and always a pleasure to collaborate with Dave Croucher, Dobson Lab and James Murphy

MH member Gökhan Tolun studies the bio-nano-machines carrying out processes involving nucleic acids such as DNA recombination, replication, repair & RNA transcription. His research group utilises #Molecularimaging, #Structuralbiology Molecular Horizons Cryo-EM, #Biochemistry & #MolecularBiology

Dr Jodi Brewster Jodi Brewster is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Tolun lab, whose research involves using cryo-electron microscopy to image the protein machines involved in viral DNA recombination, to help us understand at the molecular level how it is occurring 🔬

#acmm26 off to a great start with many interesting talks on day 1. Gökhan Tolun lab well represented with Timothy Newing and I making up half of CryoEM session 1🔬🦠🧬

Had a great day at Lunch with Dame Bridget Ogilvie. Wonderful to celebrate the achievements of my female colleagues and hear inspiring stories from Dame Bridget herself and our DVCRI @Jenny_STEM. Thanks Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute for an awesome event.

Very happy to see this out in Science Signaling. First paper for Sarah Trevelyan, with awesome contributions from James Murphy Dobson Lab and Dave Croucher. Otago Biochemistry stke.sciencemag.org/content/13/622…

Herpes is a serious #publichealth issue. With NHMRC funding our researchers are working on determining 3D molecular structures & mechanisms of #herpes virus proteins to create new treatment drugs. Big career moment: My first last-author paper is accepted! It's a review, but a special one: long story short, it has been in my mind for the last 13 years! Thanks to Jodi Brewster, it will finally be published... Now I can use that part of my brain for other things. 😄

Very excited to have published my first paper as an affiliate of UOW, Molecular Horizons @ UOW, Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute ! Thanks Gökhan Tolun for helping me through the hoops😆. iubmb.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10…

I am very excited and honoured to be named a Tabor Award winner😊, Thanks JBC. Congratulations also, to the other winners. A huge thankyou to my co-authors, especially Wayne Patrick MME Lab: Molecules, Microbes & Evolution, for all you help and hard work getting this research out there.

Our latest work is now out as a pre-print. This is a very special one: We've determined the structure of a protein I started working on during my PhD (in the year 2000), and have been dreaming about seeing its structure for more than 20 years! 🤩 UOW Research UOW Molecular Horizons @ UOW

Our latest #CryoEM structure is now out in Nature Communications as an #OpenAccess article. Thanks much Timothy Newing, Jodi Brewster, Lucy Fitschen Molecular Horizons Cryo-EM, Dr Nikolas Johnston, Haibo Yu for all your hard work and perseverance.
