Another petty counterproductive move from Starmer. Punishing MPs who stood against a widely unpopular policy won’t endear him to the public or improve discipline in the party. It just makes him look like he hasn’t learnt a thing from the disability cuts. Because he hasn’t.

The message from Starmer to the electorate is that the problem recently has not been the government’s policies—which are as popular as the Black Death—but the handful of Labour MPs who, despite being handpicked for loyalty, rebelled. Labour, in the future, will be even worse.
